Second level students 'could help Tidy Towns effort'
The report, which is underpinning discussion on the development of the Tidy Towns work, was carried out by Flynn Furey Consultants as part of Kildare County Council's Tidy Towns Support Project.
Among a wide range of thoughts, it suggests that local second level students should become involved in anti-litter action projects. This could help them acknowledge their role as part of the solution to litter.
Students could, for instance, become involved in surveys to monitor problem areas, using photograpic projects and action days as part of a CSPE Action Project or an LCVP module.
Other matters highlighted is the repair and completion of footpaths in a number of areas around the town, as well as planting and hedgerow replacement.
The presence of invasive non-native species is also an issue, as is informal advertising on Main Street.
These and other suggestions will be discussed tonight at the latest of a series of public meetings on how to improve Kilcullen's markings in the annual competition.
Environmental directions have been identified as ways in which extra marks can be garnered.
The meeting in the Town Hall is open to all and starts at 8pm.
